Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup cold butter cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Fruit

  • 1 cup fresh or thawed blueberries patted dry

Glaze (Optional)

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk or half-and-half
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest optional
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice optional

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  • Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gently fold in blueberries.
  • Add buttermilk and stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  • Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Glaze (Optional)

  • Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, lemon zest, and lemon juice until smooth.
  • Drizzle glaze over cooled biscuits.

  • Use fresh or thawed blueberries for the best flavor.
  • Don't overmix the dough to keep biscuits fluffy.
