Ingredients

  • 4 medium apples (Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, or Gala; firm varieties)
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter (or plant-based alternative for vegan option)
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional, for added crunch)
  • 1/4 cup water (to prevent burning in the baking dish)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Wash the apples and core them, ensuring the bottom stays intact to hold the filling.
  • In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, butter, and walnuts (if using).
  • Place the apples in a baking dish and fill each apple with the prepared cinnamon mixture.
  • Add 1/4 cup of water to the baking dish to prevent burning.
  • Bake the apples for 20-40 minutes, depending on their size, until they are tender and easily pierced with a fork.
  • Optional: Broil the apples for 2-3 minutes to achieve a golden, crispy top.
  • Let the apples cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Best apple varieties for this recipe include Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, and Gala for a tender yet firm texture.
  • Add a pinch of nutmeg or allspice for extra depth in flavor.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream, Greek yogurt, or a drizzle of caramel for an indulgent treat.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven, adding a splash of apple juice for moisture.
